The Benefits of LED
LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights are without a doubt the single most energy efficient artificial light source on the market today. Although LED technology itself dates back to 1927, only in recent years has it become a viable option to light homes and work spaces. And now, due to their efficiency and flexibility, they are gaining popularity. LEDs are far more durable than regular incandescent lamps, even compact fluorescent (Energy Saving) lamps, and have a great advantage over the latter in that LEDs are an instant full light with no warm up time required when they're switched on.
Two of the main benefits of LED lighting are its efficiency and longevity. On average an LED lamp will last 10 times as long as a compact fluorescent lamp and consume up to 75% less energy, and over 100 times as long as a regular incandescent lamp and consume up to 90% less energy. These benefits mean that together with the resulting reduced maintenance and replacement costs, LED lamps and fittings quite literally pay for themselves over a relatively short period of time.
The Safe Alternative
The incredible efficiency of a modern LED lamp brings with it a fantastic side effect, they produce almost no heat! All too often in our trade do we come across light fittings which have been severly degraded or even destroyed by the heat created by a regular incandescent or even compact fluorescent lamp. Worse still, very often we find the intense heat generated by halogen lamps in ceiling downlights has been slowly burning the wooden joists and cables behind them, quite scary. The cool running nature of LED lamps reduces this clear fire risk to zero.
LEDs are also considered a "green" eco-friendly lamp, as they are recyclable and aren't made with toxic materials like compact fluorescents.
